Balochistan Assembly passes resolutions on illegal trawling, domestic flights, drugs and cancer hospital
QUETTA: The Balochistan Assembly, meeting under Speaker Captain (retd) Abdul Khaliq Achakzai after a one-hour delay, passed resolutions on illegal trawling, domestic air links, elimination of narcotics, cancer treatment, action against Pashtun traders in Sindh and other issues.
MPA Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman moved an adjournment notice on illegal trawling in the Fisheries Department. Parliamentary Secretary Barkat Rind said more than 20 trawlers had been seized.
MPA Asadullah Baloch’s resolution seeking domestic flights from Panjgur, Khuzdar, Dalbandin and Zhob was adopted. Resolutions moved by Asghar Ali Tareen for an inquiry into action against Pashtun traders in Sindh and by Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman on eliminating narcotics and setting up rehabilitation centres were also passed.
On a resolution by Syed Zafar Agha, Provincial Health Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakar said machinery for a 250-bed cancer hospital would soon be imported and the facility made functional.
Provincial Minister Haji Ali Madad Jattak tabled a joint censure resolution against PPP parliamentary leader Mir Sadiq Umrani, which the House approved. Interior Minister Mir Ziaullah Langau, Farah Azim Shah and Bakht Muhammad Kakar also spoke, while Umrani defended his position. The Speaker later ordered Umrani’s controversial remarks expunged from the assembly record.
Langau also tabled the Balochistan Anti-Terrorism (Amendment) Bill, which was passed after a vote despite opposition from Leader of the Opposition Mir Younas Aziz Zehri, who had demanded that it be referred to the standing committee.
After a stormy sitting, the Speaker adjourned the session until 3pm on September 5.
