Reports on folk artist Mai Sabhai’s murder contrary to facts: DC South Dera Bugti

QUETTA: Deputy Commissioner South Dera Bugti has said reports circulating on various media platforms about the alleged murder of folk artist Mai Sabhai contain incorrect and misleading information about the incident and its location.

According to the DC, some television channels, newspapers and social media platforms carried news of Mai Sabhai’s killing, but the details given in those reports were not based on facts and were unverified.

He said the publicity of unconfirmed information about sensitive incidents could create public anxiety and misunderstanding and also generate a negative impression about the law-and-order situation in the area.

The DC appealed to the media to verify facts from the district administration and authorised police officials before publishing or broadcasting any news about sensitive incidents so that the spread of incorrect information could be avoided.

Responsible journalism, he said, required that verified information be given priority in reporting any incident and that news based on unconfirmed reports be avoided.

He also requested the media organisations concerned to issue an appropriate correction and clarification of the incorrect information published or aired about Mai Sabhai’s murder so that the facts could be made clear to the public.
