Efforts Underway to Secure Assurances from UK and Jemima for Imran Khan’s Silence, But PTI Founder Refuses: Report

ISLAMABAD: Efforts are reportedly underway to persuade former wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, Jemima Goldsmith, his two sons and the British government to guarantee that he would refrain from making political statements if he were allowed to travel to the United Kingdom. However, Imran Khan has reportedly refused to agree to the proposal, according to a report published by Dawn.

A PTI leader, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the party had been expecting permission to meet Imran Khan, but the refusal to allow the meeting sent a clear message that the party should not assume that circumstances were improving.

According to the report, the PTI leader said that despite the strict attitude of jail authorities and officials, Imran Khan remained firm on his political position.

The leader claimed that the PTI founder had conveyed a clear message that even if he were transferred to a hospital on medical grounds, the planned long march would take place under all circumstances.

The PTI leader also expressed concern that if Imran Khan were transferred to a hospital, he could be sent back to prison after five or six days of treatment rather than being shifted to Bani Gala.

Responding to a question, a senior PTI leader claimed that behind-the-scenes efforts were being made to send Imran Khan abroad, particularly to the United Kingdom, and that such efforts were currently ongoing.

The leader claimed that attempts were being made to persuade Jemima Goldsmith, her two sons and the British government to provide an assurance that if Imran Khan were transferred to the UK, he would not issue any political statements from there and would maintain complete political silence.

However, according to the PTI leader, Imran Khan has not agreed to any of these proposals or conditions.
