Good News on Petrol, Diesel Prices Expected Soon, Says Petroleum Minister

ISLAMABAD: Federal Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik has assured citizens concerned about rising petrol and diesel prices that “good news” is expected in the coming days.

Speaking to a private television channel, the minister said the government was in contact with several countries to secure relief in petroleum prices and that positive developments were expected.

Ali Pervaiz Malik said Pakistan was also expecting positive news from Saudi Arabia and hoped for progress in discussions with Türkiye. Referring to support from Oman, he said Oman had already agreed to provide Pakistan with petroleum products on $200 million worth of credit.

The minister said the government was taking every possible step to provide relief to the public and was exploring various international sources to secure petroleum products.

He expressed hope that these efforts would improve the availability of petrol and diesel in the country while also helping provide relief on prices.

Ali Pervaiz Malik said global energy markets had faced severe supply and pricing challenges over the past six months due to the regional situation. He added that the government had taken all possible measures to provide relief to the public and meet the country’s energy requirements.

He said disruptions in supply during the regional crisis had created availability issues in global energy markets, as several countries depend on imports and multiple sources to meet their energy needs. Rising prices and supply disruptions had affected the budgets of governments, consumers and businesses worldwide.

The petroleum minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the federal government had utilized around Rs130 billion from its own resources to support the public during the difficult situation. He added that efforts had also been made in coordination with provincial governments to support vulnerable segments of society.
