Trump Rules Out Use of Nuclear Weapons Against Iran
WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has ruled out the use of nuclear weapons against Iran as part of the ongoing war, saying there was no reason to resort to nuclear arms after Iran had already been defeated.
During an event at the Oval Office, a journalist asked Trump whether he could assure the public that he would not use nuclear weapons against Iran. Trump criticized the question but said he was ruling out their use.
“I would never say that, but the answer is yes, I rule it out. There’s no reason for it,” Trump said.
Calling the question “a stupid question,” Trump said Iran had been completely defeated and questioned why the United States would use nuclear weapons after achieving victory.
Trump also accused Iran of committing crimes against humanity and said Iran should face war-crimes proceedings, alleging that more than 100,000 opponents of the Iranian government had been killed.
Earlier, Trump had threatened Iran with a strong response following attacks on a US military base in Jordan. In an interview with Fox News, the US president said Washington would deliver a tough response to the Iranian attacks in Jordan.
