Wasim Akram Explains Why Wife Shaniera Did Not Accompany Him for Hajj

ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan captain and legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram has explained why his wife, Shaniera Akram, did not accompany him when he recently performed Hajj.

Wasim Akram addressed the question during an appearance with Shaniera on Maliha Rehman’s podcast, where the couple discussed several aspects of their personal lives.

“Many people have been asking me on social media why Shaniera did not go for Hajj with me,” Wasim said. He explained that he believed Shaniera’s first step should be to perform Umrah so that she could better understand the spiritual experience before they perform Hajj together.

Shaniera also explained that she felt Wasim needed to undertake the pilgrimage on his own so he could remain fully focused on the spiritual journey.

“He needed to go alone first. When he was completely focused on Hajj, the last thing I wanted was for him to be thinking about me,” Shaniera said.

She clarified that she was not opposed to accompanying him in the future, adding that they hoped to perform Hajj together one day, Insha’Allah.

According to Shaniera, the pilgrimage was Wasim’s personal spiritual journey and she wanted him to experience and embrace it without any distraction.

Wasim described his Hajj experience as one of the most beautiful and memorable experiences of his life, revealing that the pilgrimage also served as a birthday gift for him.

The couple’s comments have answered a question that had been repeatedly raised by their fans on social media. Wasim said that he and Shaniera hope to undertake the sacred journey together in the future, Insha’Allah.
