Quetta Police Launch Major Operation in Jinnah Road City Nullah, Over 140 Drug Addicts Shifted to Rehab Centres
QUETTA: Quetta police have launched a major operation against drug use and trafficking in the City Nullah area along Jinnah Road, taking more than 140 drug addicts into custody and shifting them to rehabilitation centres.
According to police sources, the operation was conducted following reports of drug use and alleged trafficking in and around the City Nullah. The operation was led by SP City Asif Ghafoor, SDPO Civil Lines Qadir Qambrani and SHO City Naimatullah Khilji, with a large contingent of police personnel participating.
During the operation, drug addicts found in the City Nullah and surrounding areas were taken into custody and transferred to different rehabilitation centres, where they will receive medical treatment, rehabilitation and other necessary facilities.
Police sources said that at one stage of the operation, around 40 drug addicts were also shifted to rehabilitation centres. Authorities said the overall objective was to clear the City Nullah of drug use and other illegal activities while providing a safer environment for residents and those affected by addiction.
Police also arrested two individuals allegedly involved in drug trafficking. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the suspects, while further details regarding the alleged drugs and other items recovered from their possession are being compiled.
During the operation, authorities also demolished several illegal or temporary structures established in the City Nullah, including a medical store, a grocery shop and a hotel.
Police officials said action against drug dealers and their networks would be intensified across Quetta. Authorities maintained that the campaign would target not only drug-selling points but also facilitators and supply networks involved in spreading narcotics in the city.
Officials said drug addicts would not simply be detained and released; instead, efforts were being made to provide them with treatment and rehabilitation so they could return to productive roles in society.
Police officers directed personnel to take indiscriminate action against drug dealers and bring to justice those involved in pushing young people toward narcotics.
Quetta police also appealed to citizens to report any drug-related activities in their neighbourhoods to the authorities so that timely action could be taken.
Police said the anti-drug campaign aims to rid Quetta of narcotics, take legal action against drug traffickers and help addicts recover through treatment and rehabilitation. Further investigation into the arrested suspects is underway, with authorities expecting additional information about the wider drug-trafficking network.
