Essential Commodity Prices Remain High Despite Reduction in Fuel Prices

ISLAMABAD: Despite a recent reduction in petroleum prices, consumers across Pakistan have yet to see any meaningful decline in the prices of essential commodities, with many everyday items continuing to be sold at high rates.

The decrease in fuel prices had raised hopes among low- and middle-income households that the cost of daily necessities would also fall. However, consumers say those expectations have not been met, as prices remain elevated.

Residents complain that, despite lower petroleum prices, they are still at the mercy of profiteers and have received little relief in their household expenses.

In Hyderabad, consumers reported that milk is still being sold at Rs240 per litre, yogurt at Rs340 per kilogram, sugar between Rs140 and Rs150 per kilogram, ghee at Rs590 to Rs600 per kilogram, and cooking oil at Rs600 to Rs700 per kilogram.

Citizens urged the authorities to take strict action against profiteering and market manipulation, saying effective enforcement could provide much-needed relief to the public.

Meanwhile, in Karachi, prices of vegetables and other essential goods have also remained high. Tomatoes are reportedly selling for Rs300 per kilogram, while no significant reduction has been observed in the prices of other commonly used items.
