Sindh Assembly Approves Over Rs3.5 Trillion Budget for Fiscal Year 2026–27

The Sindh Assembly has approved the provincial budget of more than Rs3.5 trillion for the fiscal year 2026–27 by a majority vote.

The assembly also approved supplementary grants during the budget session.

Speaking on the occasion, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said the provincial government had completed nearly 100 development projects despite facing a budget deficit of Rs344 billion. He added that the government aims to complete more than 1,800 development projects during the next fiscal year.

The chief minister acknowledged that the condition of roads in Karachi remains poor, saying that the government has completed a comprehensive mapping of the city’s road network. He said some road projects would be assigned to the Frontier Works Organization (FWO), while others would be undertaken by the provincial government.

Murad Ali Shah noted that the federal government is currently providing limited support for certain road projects. He added that the Sindh government plans to develop major infrastructure projects through public-private partnerships.

The chief minister said he had discussed plans with the prime minister to develop Keti Bandar under a public-private partnership model. According to Shah, the project will include not only a seaport but also a broader economic network. He added that a green energy network is also planned, citing the province’s potential for low-cost electricity generation.

Murad Ali Shah further said that the report on the Gul Plaza tragedy will soon be made public. He also stated that the government has allocated Rs8 billion in subsidies related to the aftermath of the incident.
