Quetta (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Daily) — Balochistan Finance Minister Mir Shuaib Nosherwani presented the provincial budget 2026–27, announcing major allocations for the transport sector and new public mobility initiatives aimed at improving urban and inter-city connectivity.
The minister informed the provincial assembly that the transport sector plays a vital role in economic growth and public welfare. He said the government is upgrading transport services across the province to ensure better travel facilities for citizens.
Under the Quetta Master Transit System, work on expanding feeder routes is progressing rapidly. Following the success of the Green Bus project, the Pink Bus Service has also been launched specifically for women, and both services are now being extended further across Quetta and its surrounding areas.
For the financial year 2026–27, the government has allocated Rs. 1.5 billion for development and Rs. 1.29 billion for non-development expenditures in the transport sector.
The finance minister announced that 18 additional Green Buses will be introduced on Quetta feeder routes, for which Rs. 700 million will be released to the transport department. He also said that 50 modern bus stops will be constructed for Green and Pink Bus services at a cost of Rs. 124 million to provide safe and dignified commuting facilities for passengers, especially women.
In a major environmental initiative, the provincial government announced the launch of Electric Buses in Balochistan for the first time in the upcoming fiscal year 2026–27.
Highlighting women empowerment measures, the minister said that the E-Bike Scheme, introduced in 2025–26, was the first of its kind in the province, designed to facilitate women in accessing education and employment opportunities. He added that the scheme will be expanded in phases to ensure transportation barriers do not hinder women’s progress.
Furthermore, to modernize traffic management, the annual grant for the Balochistan Traffic Engineering Bureau has been increased from Rs. 60 million to Rs. 80 million.
