Police Armored Vehicle Fired Upon in Rawalakot; Authorities Blame Banned Action Committee Members

Islamabad: An armored police vehicle came under fire in Rawalakot after alleged members of the banned Joint Awami Action Committee opened fire, according to official sources.

Sources said the incident occurred in the Eidgah area of Rawalakot, where more than 30 rounds were reportedly fired at the police armored vehicle. Bullet marks were clearly visible on the vehicle following the attack.

Officials further claimed that the leader of the banned committee had previously issued threats in an audio message, warning of disruptive activities.

The development comes days after the Azad Jammu and Kashmir government declared the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee a banned organization. Three days earlier, authorities had also restored previously withdrawn cases against members of the group, citing violations of an agreement reached with the government.

According to a notification issued by the Azad Kashmir Law and Justice Department, 177 First Information Reports (FIRs) that had been withdrawn in connection with protest demonstrations have now been reinstated.

Authorities have not yet announced any arrests in connection with the firing incident, while investigations are underway.
