Armed robbers flee after looting gold worth over Rs 300 million in Karachi shop heist

KARACHI: Armed robbers carried out a major robbery at a shopping centre in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, looting gold worth over Rs 300 million and cash worth hundreds of thousands of rupees from four gold shops before fleeing the scene.
The incident took place within the jurisdiction of Shahrah-e-Faisal police station at Basera Shopping Centre in Block 17, Gulistan-e-Jauhar. Police confirmed that a case has been registered against unidentified armed suspects.
According to the FIR lodged by gold traders’ association president and victim jeweller Ejaz Hussain, four armed men broke the glass of a closed shop belonging to his son Lariab and entered the premises. The suspects allegedly looted gold worth Rs 219 million and Rs 2 million in cash from that shop alone.
The robbers also snatched gold worth Rs 4 million from another shop employee named Jameel. In a third shop, they reportedly took an iPhone from the owner, while from a fourth shop they looted gold worth Rs 7 million at gunpoint.
Police said that the suspects also opened fire while fleeing, causing damage to shop glass, and one of the suspects was reportedly injured during the incident.
Authorities added that CCTV cameras in the area were not functioning at the time of the robbery. However, investigators have traced the entry and exit routes of the suspects. The Crime Scene Unit has collected important evidence from the site, and investigations are ongoing from multiple angles. Police expressed confidence that the suspects will be arrested soon.
