Five Air Force Personnel Killed as Indian AN-32 Transport Aircraft Crashes in Assam

New Delhi: An Indian Air Force AN-32 transport aircraft crashed in the northeastern state of Assam, killing all five Air Force personnel on board.

According to Indian media reports, a fire broke out in one of the aircraft’s engines during flight. The crew reportedly attempted an emergency landing, but the aircraft crashed within the boundaries of an Air Force station.

Rescue and emergency response teams rushed to the crash site immediately after the incident and launched recovery operations.

The Indian Air Force confirmed the accident and stated that all five victims were service personnel. An official investigation has been initiated to determine the exact cause of the crash.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and has sought a detailed report from the relevant authorities.

The AN-32 is a key transport aircraft used by the Indian Air Force for carrying personnel and supplies, particularly in difficult terrain, high-altitude regions, and adverse weather conditions.

The crash comes amid concerns over a series of aviation incidents involving the Indian Air Force. Earlier, an Air Force aircraft reportedly went missing from radar during a mission in Assam, prompting a large-scale search operation. The latest accident is being viewed as another setback for the force’s aviation safety record.
