Action Against Illegal Construction Accelerated in Quetta: 11 Buildings Built Without NOC Sealed, 7 Arrested

QUETTA (Daily Qudrat) – Under the vision of Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Ahmed Bugti for the effective enforcement of building control laws, ensuring safe and legal construction, and protecting citizens’ life and property, action against illegal construction in Quetta has been accelerated. On the instructions of Administrator Metropolitan Corporation Quetta Bashir Ahmed Bariچ, the relevant departments of the Metropolitan Corporation have started a series of action against buildings violating building laws in various areas of the city.

According to details, action was taken against illegal constructions in New Sariab Road (CPEC Road) and A-One City under the leadership of Chief Architect Metropolitan Corporation Quetta Ashfaq Badini and Metropolitan Magistrate (Buildings) Naveed Baloch. During the action, 11 buildings, plazas, and shops built without the approval and NOC of the Metropolitan Corporation Quetta or in violation of building control laws were sealed. During the action, authorities also arrested 7 individuals involved in illegal construction, while some portions built in violation of rules and regulations were demolished on the spot.

Relevant authorities said that the purpose of the action is to discourage illegal and unsafe construction in the city and to bring construction activities within the ambit of prescribed laws and regulations. During the action, monitoring supervisors of Zarghoon and Chiltan zones were also present and reviewed the construction activities. The relevant teams examined the construction records of various buildings, approval of maps, NOCs, and other legal documents, and took action after violations were proven.

According to Metropolitan Corporation authorities, New Sariab Road (CPEC Road) has already been declared a no-construction zone by the Commissioner Quetta Division, after which no new construction is allowed in the said area. Authorities clarified that if any person or institution starts construction in the no-construction zone despite construction activity not being allowed, action will be taken against them in accordance with the law.

The Metropolitan Corporation Quetta has directed citizens, builders, construction companies, and other relevant persons to complete all necessary legal requirements before starting the construction of any building or plaza. Construction activity should be started only after obtaining approval of the construction map, NOC, and other relevant permits, so that legal action or financial loss can be avoided later.

Authorities have also appealed to citizens that if they need any kind of guidance regarding building laws, construction permits, or map approval, they should contact the relevant office of the Metropolitan Corporation Quetta. The Corporation said that all possible facilities will be provided to citizens and builders who fulfill legal requirements.

The Metropolitan Corporation Quetta has clarified that legal construction in the city will be encouraged; however, construction without approval, violation of building control laws, and construction in no-construction zones will not be tolerated under any circumstances. The series of indiscriminate action against violators will continue.

According to the orders, the purpose of actions against illegal construction is not only to stop construction but also to protect citizens’ lives from potential accidents, because enforcement of approved building codes and construction laws can improve the strength of buildings, structural safety, and the quality of civic facilities.

The Metropolitan Corporation has indicated that monitoring of building law violations will also be carried out in other areas of the city, and where illegal construction is identified, action will be taken in accordance with the law.
