Saudi Arabia Lifts Ban on Lebanese Imports After Five Years

Islamabad (Kudrat Daily) — Saudi Arabia has lifted its five-year ban on Lebanese imports, marking a significant step toward improving relations between the two countries.

The restrictions were removed on the directive of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman following requests from Lebanon’s president and prime minister.

Relations between Saudi Arabia and Lebanon deteriorated in 2021 after controversial remarks on the Yemen conflict by Lebanon’s then Information Minister George Kordahi, leading to diplomatic tensions and trade restrictions.

According to the Saudi government, the decision was made in light of positive measures taken by the Lebanese government to restore state institutions. Saudi authorities also considered progress made by relevant teams over the past year and assurances provided by Beirut.

In its statement, Saudi Arabia expressed hope that Lebanon would continue taking necessary steps to prevent its territory from being used against neighboring countries.

Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud informed Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam of the decision during a telephone conversation and reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s support for Lebanon’s stability, sovereignty, and the welfare of its people.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun welcomed the move, describing it as a reflection of the deep ties between the two countries and Saudi Arabia’s continued support for Lebanon.

He said the decision would provide direct support to Lebanon’s economy by opening new markets and opportunities for Lebanese exporters and producers. He added that the move would further strengthen the historic relationship between Saudi Arabia and Lebanon.
