Imam of the Grand Mosque Warns Against Spreading Unverified Content on Social Media

Makkah: In a powerful Friday sermon at Masjid al-Haram, Sheikh Yasir Al-Dosari, Imam and Khateeb of the Grand Mosque in Makkah, issued a stern warning regarding the misuse of social media. He urged Muslims to verify any news before sharing it online, emphasizing the destructive impact of false information.
Sheikh Al-Dosari condemned the spread of fake fatwas and fabricated statements through bogus or paid accounts, calling it part of an anti-Islam agenda aimed at defaming scholars and sowing discord in society.
He reminded the faithful that every word shared on social media will be held accountable before Allah on the Day of Judgment. The Imam labeled such deceptive accounts as dangerous, noting that they deliberately spread lies to create societal unrest.
Highlighting the negative impact of smartphones and online platforms, Sheikh Al-Dosari noted that instead of bringing people closer, digital technology is now promoting isolation, jealousy, and ingratitude. He described social media as a breeding ground for fake lifestyles and unnecessary comparisons, which are leading to spiritual and social disorders.
The Imam concluded by advising Muslims to remain cautious and responsible in their online behavior, especially when it comes to religious matters and the reputation of Islamic scholars.
