Two Arrested for Giving Fake Currency to Man Selling Goats for Daughter’s Dowry

Peshawar: Nishtar Colony Police have arrested two suspects allegedly involved in a fake currency network operating from Darra Adam Khel after a citizen was reportedly deceived with counterfeit notes while selling goats to arrange dowry for his daughter.
According to a spokesperson for the Operations Wing, the victim discovered that the money he received was counterfeit when a shopkeeper refused to accept the notes during a purchase. Following the complaint, police launched an immediate investigation.
Police identified and arrested two suspects, Nadeem and Akram, allegedly involved in the counterfeit currency business. Initial investigations revealed that the main suspect, Malik Nadeem, had reportedly been involved in the fake currency trade since 2013.
Authorities stated that the suspect used to obtain bundles of counterfeit notes from Darra Adam Khel, with each bundle containing fake currency worth approximately Rs500,000. The suspect allegedly confessed to ordering between two and four such bundles every 15 days.
Investigators further disclosed that the counterfeit money was used to purchase sacrificial animals from cities including Hafizabad, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, and Lahore.
Police said the suspects bought goats, sheep, and other livestock from markets, dealers, and farm owners before reselling them to convert counterfeit currency into legitimate earnings.
According to DIG Operations Faisal Kamran, police have also recovered a goat and a vehicle allegedly purchased using fake currency. Authorities said the investigation has been expanded to trace and arrest other facilitators linked to the network.
