Eid-ul-Adha Approaches: Intense Bargaining Continues at Cattle Markets from Karachi to Lahore

Karachi: With only two days left until Eid-ul-Adha, cattle markets across major cities including Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Peshawar, and Quetta are witnessing peak activity as buyers and traders engage in intense bargaining.

The busiest market, located at Northern Bypass in Karachi, has attracted a large number of visitors searching for affordable sacrificial animals. Traders and customers are actively negotiating prices, continuing the traditional practice of bargaining.

Due to weekend holidays, a significant number of citizens visited cattle markets on Saturday and Sunday, leading to increased sales. However, animals are still available in large numbers, and the flow of buyers continues.

Many traders have already sold their animals and returned home, while others remain in the markets hoping to secure better deals. Reports suggest that compared to earlier days, some slight price reductions have been observed as sellers aim to avoid taking animals back unsold.

This year, prices of sacrificial animals have increased significantly. A goat that previously sold for 70,000 to 80,000 rupees is now priced as high as 125,000 rupees. Larger goats are being sold between 200,000 to 250,000 rupees, while cattle prices have risen from 200,000–250,000 rupees to 400,000–500,000 rupees.

Buyers are expressing concern over rising prices, while traders attribute the increase to inflation, rising fuel costs, and higher transportation and maintenance expenses. Despite this, bargaining continues as both sides try to reach mutually acceptable deals.
