Chief Justice Yahya Afridi Makes Details of Five Complaints Public

Islamabad: Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi has made public the details of five complaints filed against him, according to an official statement issued following a meeting of the Supreme Judicial Council.

The communiqué stated that the first complaint was filed in 2016 by Peshawar High Court lawyer Sibghatullah Shah against then-Justice Yahya Afridi, alleging irregularities in the merit-based selection process of additional sessions judges. The Council unanimously dismissed the complaint in its meeting held on May 14.

The second complaint was filed by Karachi resident Amjad Hussain Darani, alleging misconduct after his case was dismissed by the Supreme Court without hearing. He referred to a judgment issued on January 12, 2022 by a bench headed by Justice Yahya Afridi. This complaint was also unanimously rejected.

The third complaint was submitted by Karachi resident Kamran Khan, who alleged that he was not given an opportunity to be heard before his complaint was dismissed by the Supreme Judicial Council. This case was also dismissed unanimously.

The fourth complaint was filed by Muhammad Masood from Vehari, alleging judicial misconduct in a civil case decided in March 2023 involving a bench that included Justice Yahya Afridi. The Council again dismissed the complaint.

The fifth complaint was filed by Lahore High Court lawyer Amjad Mahmood, alleging misconduct after a lawyer was allegedly barred from entering the Supreme Court premises in December 2024. This complaint was also unanimously rejected.

According to the statement, all five complaints against Chief Justice Yahya Afridi were reviewed and subsequently dismissed unanimously by the Supreme Judicial Council.
