Senator Muhammad Abdul Qadir Calls for Real Public Relief in Budget 2026-27

Quetta (Kudrat News) — Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Defence Production, Senator Muhammad Abdul Qadir, has said that the Budget 2026-27 is being presented at a time when ordinary citizens are struggling under severe economic pressure, inflation, unemployment, and an increasing tax burden.
In a statement issued from Quetta, he said that the continuous depreciation of the Pakistani rupee, high electricity and gas bills, rising petroleum prices, and inflation in essential commodities have made life extremely difficult for the middle and lower-income classes. He added that the nation is now looking towards the government to see whether the new budget will provide genuine relief or further increase public hardships.
Senator Abdul Qadir stated that in recent years, strict IMF conditions, rising circular debt, and a weak economic structure forced governments to increase taxes, but the main burden fell on salaried and middle-class citizens, while influential sectors continued to benefit from various concessions.
He said the public now expects a budget that offers practical relief instead of mere figures and claims. According to him, electricity and gas tariffs have become one of the biggest concerns for the people, affecting industries, businesses, and domestic consumers alike.
He further said that if the government succeeds in reducing the basic electricity tariff, abolishing additional taxes, and stabilizing gas prices, it would provide major relief to the common man. Similarly, reducing petrol and diesel prices would positively impact transportation costs as well as food prices.
The senator emphasized that instead of imposing new taxes, the government should broaden the tax net, reduce public expenditures, and eliminate corruption and unnecessary privileges. He noted that providing incentives to agriculture, industry, IT, and exports could strengthen the economy and create new employment opportunities.
Senator Muhammad Abdul Qadir said the public no longer wants promises but practical measures. He added that if Budget 2026-27 includes relief in the energy sector, facilities for low-income groups, and employment opportunities, it could help restore political and economic confidence in the government. Otherwise, rising inflation and tax burdens may further increase public frustration and unrest.
