JUI says it will raise voice against “unjust restrictions” on religious seminaries, Maulana Abdul Wasay

QUETTA (Kuwait News Desk) — Leaders of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), including Balochistan President Senator Maulana Abdul Wasay and General Secretary Maulana Agha Mahmood Shah, have said that the upcoming “Tahaffuz-e-Madaris and Rights of Balochistan Conference” will have a significant impact on the political, religious, and social landscape of the province.

In a statement, the leaders said preparations for the conference are underway across all districts of Balochistan, with party workers actively engaged in organizing the event. They instructed that efforts be intensified to ensure the conference reflects the true sentiments of the people and highlights religious and provincial rights.

Maulana Abdul Wasay said that defending religious seminaries, ensuring their autonomy, addressing registration matters, and opposing what he described as unjust government-imposed restrictions is the religious, national, and political responsibility of JUI.

He said that religious seminaries are not only educational institutions but also protect Islamic values, religious identity, and national ideology, adding that any negative policy against them would not be acceptable.

The JUI leadership also reiterated its longstanding struggle for the rights of Balochistan, claiming that the party has taken principled positions on major national issues such as Reko Diq, Saindak, Gwadar Port, Sui gas, the NFC Award, and provincial autonomy under the 18th Constitutional Amendment.

They said JUI has made significant sacrifices for provincial rights and has consistently supported efforts to strengthen autonomy for Pakistan’s provinces.

The leaders expressed regret over what they described as repeated “political injustice” against JUI’s mandate over the past three election cycles, alleging that seats won through public votes were transferred to other parties through political manipulation.

They questioned how long such “electoral injustice” and disregard for public mandate would continue, saying it has undermined trust in the democratic process.

According to the statement, electoral engineering has discouraged public participation in democracy and strengthened narratives opposing the system, while certain elements promoted unrest and violence. However, they said JUI has always pursued constitutional, political, and democratic means.

They added that history has proven JUI’s stance to be correct, and that politics of unrest and hatred has failed.

The party reaffirmed that it will continue to defend religious seminaries, democratic values, provincial rights, and the public mandate with full determination and consistency.
