Patients Suffer as Khuzdar Teaching Hospital Faces Severe Shortage of Basic Facilities

KHUZDAR: District Headquarters Teaching Hospital Khuzdar, considered the main healthcare center for poor and underprivileged patients in the district, is reportedly facing a serious lack of basic medical facilities, causing concern among citizens and patients’ families.
According to reports, the hospital’s emergency ward — regarded as one of its most critical departments — is suffering from inadequate lighting, shortage of life-saving medicines, and limited availability of medical staff, particularly during nighttime hours.
Despite holding the status of a district headquarters teaching hospital, patients and attendants claim that essential healthcare services are either unavailable or severely insufficient. Families bringing critically ill patients to the hospital often struggle more with the lack of facilities than with the illness itself.
Citizens said that power outages, shortage of medicines, and the absence of doctors and trained staff have badly damaged public trust in the hospital.
Relatives of patients alleged that they are frequently forced to purchase injections, IV drips, and even basic emergency medicines from private medical stores outside the hospital. They also complained that the absence of backup lighting in the emergency ward makes patient examination difficult during power failures at night.
Public and political circles criticized the health authorities, saying officials appear limited to meetings and paperwork while ground realities remain alarming.
Residents have urged the Balochistan Health Department, the provincial health minister, the health secretary, and the commissioner of Kalat Division to take immediate notice of the deteriorating conditions at the hospital.
They demanded the immediate provision of medicines, proper lighting arrangements, and round-the-clock availability of trained medical staff in the emergency ward.
