Punjab Imposes Rs2,000 Fine for Riding Motorcycles Without Indicators

Lahore: The Punjab Traffic Police has decided to impose a fine of Rs2,000 on motorcyclists who ride without using turn indicators, in a move aimed at improving road safety across the province.
According to officials, riders have been strictly advised to follow traffic rules, particularly the use of indicators while turning, failing which legal action will be taken. A spokesperson for the Punjab Traffic Police said that not using indicators is not only a violation of traffic laws but also a major cause of road accidents.
Authorities emphasized that adopting basic safety measures can significantly reduce risks, protecting both motorcyclists and other road users.
In a related development, the Punjab government has also decided to introduce smart surveillance vehicles to curb violations such as fake number plates and e-challan defaulters. These “Police Eye Smart Vans” will be equipped with 360-degree cameras capable of automatically identifying vehicles and individuals involved in violations or wanted cases.
The smart vehicles will be integrated with the Safe Cities system, enabling real-time alerts. Cameras installed on these vehicles will scan and update data of vehicles and individuals within a 100-meter range, helping authorities detect offenders instantly.
Officials added that electric vehicles will be used for these smart vans to reduce fuel consumption. The first unit is expected to be completed next week and presented to the Punjab Chief Minister for approval.
