Senate Rejects Resolution on PTI Founder’s Health Amid Opposition Protest

Islamabad: The Senate on Friday rejected a resolution concerning the health of the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), triggering strong protests from opposition lawmakers.

PTI Senator Aon Abbas Buppi tabled the resolution in the upper house, calling attention to the health condition of party founder Imran Khan. The government opposed the motion, leading to its rejection. Following the decision, PTI senators gathered in front of the chairman’s dais, chanting slogans and staging a protest.

Adviser to the Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah questioned the need for a formal resolution if the opposition merely wanted to discuss the matter. He said that details regarding the PTI founder’s living conditions had already been clarified in a report submitted to the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

Rana Sanaullah stated that the former prime minister is examined by a jail doctor every other day and has been checked 25 times by external doctors so far. He added that the Supreme Court had appointed a friend of the court in the case and that the government had assured compliance with any further medical examination ordered by the court.

Opposition Leader in the Senate Raja Nasir Abbas criticized the government’s stance, saying vision loss does not occur suddenly and alleging negligence in medical care. He questioned why the PTI founder’s lawyers and family were not informed about medical examinations and claimed that the doctors who examined him were not specialists in the relevant field.

Raja Nasir Abbas urged the government to acknowledge any mistakes and ensure proper medical treatment, emphasizing that the matter concerns the health and well-being of a former prime minister.

The session witnessed heated exchanges between treasury and opposition members before proceedings continued.
