Balochistan Assembly Speaker Rejects Allegations, Emphasizes Neutrality and Adherence to Law

Quetta: Speaker of the Balochistan Assembly, Abdul Khaliq Achakzai, has rejected allegations made by opposition member Hidayat ur Rehman Baloch, asserting that he is conducting assembly proceedings in a fair and lawful manner.
Speaking to the media after a session, Achakzai said he had only informed Hidayat ur Rehman about legal procedures and did not issue any threats. “My tone is not harsh; I strictly follow the law and remain neutral,” he stated.
The speaker criticized repeated disruptions during sessions, claiming that Hidayat ur Rehman has been interrupting proceedings for the past two and a half years and hindering the assembly from functioning according to its agenda. He urged members to respect parliamentary ethics, rules, and decorum.
Achakzai also confirmed that objectionable remarks made by the opposition lawmaker were expunged from the record and that he was suspended for one day in accordance with assembly rules.
Responding to questions, the speaker clarified that he had merely explained the legal provisions under which a member can be suspended for one day, three days, or up to a month, stressing the importance of maintaining discipline in the house.
He further noted that while he remains impartial, he has often allowed more time to the opposition to express their views, while advising the government to address its matters through cabinet or relevant forums.
Achakzai added that frequent identification of quorum issues is not a positive practice and urged lawmakers to ensure consistent participation in proceedings to maintain the effectiveness of the assembly.
