JUI-F Challenges Balochistan Mines and Minerals Act in High Court

Quetta:The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) party has challenged the Balochistan Mines and Minerals Act in the Balochistan High Court. The petition was filed on Wednesday by JUI-F’s provincial Amir, Senator Maulana Abdul Wasay, and Senator Kamran Murtaza Advocate.

According to the petition’s content, the approval of the Mines and Minerals Act by the Balochistan Assembly is unacceptable and amounts to injustice to the people of the province. The petitioners argue that they cannot allow anyone to take control of their resources. The Government of Balochistan has been named as a respondent in the case.

Speaking to the media, Senator Maulana Abdul Wasay and Senator Kamran Murtaza stated that the petition was filed under the guidance of JUI-F’s leader, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, and they remain hopeful that the court will deliver justice. They expressed concerns that the Act goes against the interests of Balochistan’s people and emphasized that if the bill is passed, the province’s residents will no longer be able to live there. The senators made it clear that they would continue to raise their voices against the Act on every platform.

Senator Maulana Abdul Wasay stated, “Today, we have challenged the Mines and Minerals Act in the Balochistan High Court. We will raise our voices on every forum in Pakistan against this Act. If it is implemented, the people of Balochistan will not be able to live here.” He further added that despite opposition from JUI-F, the Mines and Minerals Bill was passed in the National Assembly and Senate, but when it came to the Balochistan Assembly, their members were deceived during the approval process.

Senator Kamran Murtaza mentioned that their party held the Chairmanship of the Standing Committee at the time, but the bill was passed in the absence of the committee chairperson. He stressed that the federal government does not have the right to control Balochistan’s natural resources and vowed that they would not allow any injustice to occur.

The JUI-F leaders categorically rejected the approval of the Mines and Minerals Act in 2025 by the Balochistan Assembly and vowed to pursue every constitutional path to challenge the law.
