US Defense Secretary Says Trump Has Good Relations with Pakistan’s Army Chief

Washington: U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has said that former U.S. President Donald Trump maintains good relations with Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir.
Speaking during a press briefing in Washington, Hegseth also issued strong remarks regarding Iran, stating that Tehran should understand that it cannot match U.S. military capabilities and that Washington remains as strong as ever.
He warned that if Iran fails to reach an agreement, the United States is prepared to launch military action. He added that Iran is attempting to reactivate missile launchers previously damaged in strikes and that the U.S. is closely monitoring the movement of Iranian military assets.
Hegseth reiterated that Iran will not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons under any circumstances and urged Tehran to make “wise decisions.”
Commenting on maritime tensions, he said Iran’s claims of controlling the Strait of Hormuz are unfounded, adding that threats against commercial vessels would be treated as piracy rather than control.
He further stated that U.S. naval forces currently control traffic in the Strait of Hormuz and that the blockade would remain in place as long as necessary, affecting Iran’s energy exports.
The defense secretary also claimed that Iran appears more inclined toward maintaining a ceasefire and expressed hope that a workable agreement could be reached. He added that the U.S. would welcome support from other countries in ensuring navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
