Trump Says Progress Made in Iran Talks, Disagreement Remains on Uranium Issue

US President Donald Trump said that several points of agreement were reached during negotiations with Iran, though differences persist over the issue of uranium.

Speaking about the talks, Trump stated that while many matters had been settled, no agreement could be reached on uranium-related concerns. He described the discussions as generally positive from the US side but criticized Iran’s approach, saying it had negotiated “poorly.”

The US president added that Washington had received a call from “the right people” on Monday morning, indicating Iran’s willingness to move forward with a deal. He expressed hope that Tehran would agree on the remaining issues.

Trump also claimed that Iran had initiated contact for the agreement, sending a message that it was eager to finalize a deal.

Commenting on the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, Trump said the world depends on the vital shipping route. He revealed that several countries had offered assistance in imposing a blockade on Iran, but maintained that the United States does not require external help for such actions.

He further noted that 34 vessels passed through the Strait of Hormuz in a single day, highlighting its significance for global trade. Trump also asserted that the US would find ways to address concerns regarding Iran’s enriched uranium.

Reiterating Washington’s stance, Trump emphasized that Iran must not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons, adding that no country should be permitted to engage in “nuclear blackmail.”
