Trump Blames Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth for Iran War, Stuns Officials

Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump has publicly placed the responsibility for the ongoing conflict with Iran on his own Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth, revealing that he was the first to advocate military action. During a roundtable in Tennessee, Trump addressed Hegseth directly, saying, “I think you should explain now, because you were the one who said we couldn’t let them develop nuclear weapons.”

The statement comes amid growing contradictions within the Trump administration over the war’s justification. Some officials argue that U.S. involvement was necessary to prevent a potential Israeli strike, while others view Iran’s nuclear program as an immediate threat. Adding to the confusion, just hours before assigning blame to Hegseth, Trump described Iran’s retaliatory strikes in the Gulf as “unexpected,” raising serious questions about the administration’s military strategy.
