Hungary Opposition Wins Landmark Election, Ousting Orbán After 16 Years

In a major political upset, the opposition in Hungary has secured a decisive victory in parliamentary elections, defeating the long-ruling government backed by former Donald Trump.
According to international media reports, the opposition party Tisza Party achieved a stunning win, unseating Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and his ruling Fidesz party.
Orbán conceded defeat on Sunday after losing to his conservative rival Peter Magyar, a former government insider turned political challenger. Magyar campaigned on promises of “system change,” appealing to voters seeking political reform.
Following the announcement, millions of supporters took to the streets in celebration, marking the end of Orbán’s 16-year tenure as prime minister.
In his statement, Orbán acknowledged the results, saying they were “clear and understandable,” though painful for his party, and extended congratulations to the winning side.
European leaders have welcomed the outcome, describing the opposition’s victory as a positive development for Europe, signaling a potential shift in Hungary’s political direction.
