U.S. Proposes 42% Surge in Defense Budget for FY2027, Prioritizes Advanced Weapons and Space Programs

The United States has proposed a significant 42% increase in its defense budget for fiscal year 2027, marking what officials describe as the largest military spending plan in the country’s history.
According to details released by the Pentagon, the proposed budget stands at approximately $1.5 trillion. A substantial portion—around $750 billion—has been allocated for naval ships, fighter jets, and a missile defense initiative referred to as the “Golden Dome.”
The budget also emphasizes investment in advanced military technologies. Around $74 billion is earmarked for drone and counter-drone systems, while more than $75 billion is proposed for space defense programs, reflecting Washington’s growing focus on emerging domains of warfare.
Additionally, about $18 billion has been proposed for the “Golden Dome” missile defense project, alongside $2.3 billion in funding for border security measures along the U.S.-Mexico boundary.
The proposed increase underscores the U.S. government’s intent to strengthen its military capabilities amid evolving global security challenges and rising geopolitical tensions.
