JUI Announces Nationwide Protest Movement Against Inflation, Demands Relief in Fuel Prices

Quetta: Maulana Abdul Wasay, a senior leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, has announced a countrywide protest movement against rising inflation, “anti-people” economic policies, and what he termed government incompetence.
In a statement, Abdul Wasay said protests, rallies, and public gatherings will be held across Pakistan, including in Balochistan, on Friday as part of a coordinated campaign. Acting on directives from party chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, he instructed party leaders at district, tehsil, and union council levels to fully mobilize workers and ensure strong public participation.
He criticized the government’s economic policies, stating that soaring prices of electricity, gas, and petroleum products, along with rising food costs and unemployment, have severely affected ordinary citizens. He described the situation as “economic exploitation” and vowed that the party would continue to raise its voice for public rights.
Abdul Wasay also demanded that the benefits of declining global oil prices be passed on to the public immediately. He said reductions in international petroleum prices should directly translate into lower fuel costs domestically, rather than being offset by taxes and levies.
He urged party workers to engage closely with the public, spreading awareness at the grassroots level and encouraging peaceful and democratic participation in the protest movement. He emphasized that the campaign represents the collective voice of the people against unjust policies.
Commenting on regional developments, Abdul Wasay expressed concern over tensions between the United States and Iran, while appreciating Pakistan’s balanced diplomatic approach in easing tensions and promoting peace. He said Pakistan’s responsible diplomacy reflects its growing recognition as a peace-loving state on the global stage.
