Sindh Disburses Fuel Subsidy Funds as Petrol Prices Rise, Says Sharjeel Memon

Karachi: Senior Provincial Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced that the Government of Sindh has begun disbursing fuel subsidies, with 2,800 beneficiaries receiving a total of Rs5.6 million so far.
Addressing a press conference, Memon said that the federal government was compelled to increase petrol prices due to the prevailing regional situation, which has added to the financial burden on the العامة.
He stated that Sindh has allocated Rs35 billion for subsidies, prioritizing farmers and transport sectors. Farmers owning up to 25 acres of land are receiving Rs1,500 per acre, with payments already underway based on verified data.
Memon added that motorcyclists are the second major beneficiary group under the subsidy program. Over 15,000 people have registered so far, while approximately 6.7 million individuals are expected to receive Rs2,000 per account.
Highlighting transport support, he said Sindh is the only province providing subsidies to private bus services, benefiting daily commuters.
Meanwhile, Excise Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla confirmed that payments have already been transferred to beneficiaries through Sindh Bank accounts. He noted that technical issues, including server downtime, had been resolved.
Separately, Memon revealed that a major anti-narcotics operation, carried out on intelligence provided by Pakistan Navy, led to the seizure of more than 500 kilograms of crystal meth (“ice”) worth over Rs5 billion. Additional raids in Jacobabad and Shikarpur resulted in the recovery of drugs, liquor, and a vehicle, with support from Sindh Police.
Officials stated that further enforcement actions are ongoing as part of efforts to curb drug trafficking and provide relief to citizens amid rising fuel costs.
