Corruption Scandal Uncovered in Quetta School Project; Officials and Contractor Accused of Embezzlement

Quetta — A major corruption scandal has been uncovered in a public development project in Quetta, where officials and a contractor have been accused of embezzling government funds allocated for the construction of additional classrooms at a girls’ school.

According to the Directorate of Anti-Corruption Establishment Balochistan, the investigation was launched following complaints and with the approval of competent authorities. The inquiry focused on a construction scheme for Government Girls Middle School in Killi Badini, Sariab Road.

Investigators revealed that although a work order had been issued for the approved site, the construction was allegedly carried out approximately 11 kilometers away in the Mian Ghundi area along the Quetta-Mastung Road. A technical inspection team confirmed that no work had been carried out at the original, approved location.

The technical report identified several irregularities, including deviation from the approved PC-1 plan, unauthorized changes in the project scope, and fake entries in official measurement records. Authorities also found that over PKR 3.7 million had been unlawfully released to the contractor without completing the project as per approved specifications.

Those allegedly involved include former Executive Engineer Khair Bakhsh Ansari, Sub-Divisional Officer Shero Khan, Sub-Engineer Zulfiqar Ali, and contractor Umair Razzaq. They have been accused of fraud, misuse of authority, and embezzlement of public funds.

A case has been registered under anti-corruption laws, and raids are currently underway to arrest the accused. Further investigation into the matter is ongoing.

Chief Minister Sarfaraz Ahmed Bugti reiterated the government’s commitment to eliminating corruption, stating that accountability measures will continue without discrimination.
