National Democratic Party Demands Immediate Release of Missing Leader Sangat Ghani Baloch on First Anniversary of Disappearance

QUETTA:The spokesperson for the National Democratic Party (NDP) issued a statement today, marking one month since the enforced disappearance of central party leader, Sangat Ghani Baloch. On May 25, 2025, Ghani Baloch was forcibly abducted by state agencies near the Al-Qadri Hotel in Khuzdar. Despite the passage of a month, no information has been provided regarding his whereabouts, nor has his arrest been officially acknowledged by the government.

The NDP spokesperson condemned this act, calling it not only unconstitutional and inhumane but also a clear violation of all international human rights principles. Enforced disappearances strip individuals of their legal protection, leaving them in a state of uncertainty and torment. Such acts, the statement said, amount to collective punishment, leaving deep psychological scars on Ghani Baloch’s family, political associates, students, and supporters.

The party also pointed out the alarming rise in cases of enforced disappearances in Balochistan, which have become increasingly frequent this year, highlighting the devastating human rights situation in the province. The NDP has strongly urged the current government and state institutions to immediately disclose Ghani Baloch’s whereabouts. If he is facing any legal charges, the party demands that he be brought before a court of law, where he can be given the opportunity to defend himself and exercise his constitutional rights.

Furthermore, the NDP called for the immediate cessation of the ongoing wave of enforced disappearances in Balochistan, as they not only violate the Constitution of Pakistan but also contravene international human rights treaties to which the country is a signatory.

To mark the one-month anniversary of Ghani Baloch’s disappearance on June 25, 2025, the NDP announced an online campaign on X (formerly Twitter). The party has called for widespread participation from political activists, human rights advocates, journalists, intellectuals, and students to raise their voices for the immediate release of Sangat Ghani Baloch and all individuals subjected to enforced disappearances in the region.

The party emphasized that raising a collective voice for the recovery of those forcibly disappeared is a moral responsibility for every conscientious citizen.
