Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Borrowing Crosses Rs 809 Billion in First Half of Fiscal Year

Peshawar — The total borrowing by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has exceeded Rs 809 billion during the first six months of the current fiscal year.
According to documents from the Department of Finance, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the government secured loans for 102 development projects. The largest share of the borrowing came from the World Bank, providing Rs 35.25 billion for 46 projects, while the Asian Development Bank funded 44 projects with Rs 35.18 billion.
The documents further reveal that from July to December, the government paid Rs 2.556 billion toward principal and interest, including Rs 1.581 billion in principal repayments and Rs 975 million in interest.
Mazmil Aslam stated that the budget had estimated borrowing of Rs 18 billion. He clarified that these are old loans with signed agreements, intended for ongoing development projects.
