Pakistan Could Benefit Greatly if US-Iran Peace Deal Succeeds: Hamid Mir

Senior Pakistani journalist and analyst Hamid Mir has expressed optimism about Pakistan’s future, claiming that the country could witness major economic and geopolitical gains if ongoing diplomatic efforts between the United States and Iran lead to a successful peace agreement.

Speaking about Pakistan’s reported mediation efforts, Hamid Mir said that a possible agreement between Washington and Tehran could help Pakistan emerge from its current economic and political difficulties and reshape the future of the entire region.

The senior analyst said that if recent regional developments and diplomatic signals are closely examined, it becomes clear that Pakistan now has a significant opportunity to overcome its ongoing crisis, provided a major diplomatic breakthrough takes place.

He referred to the recent visits of General Asim Munir and Mohsin Naqvi to Tehran, along with ongoing backchannel diplomacy involving Washington, aimed at bringing both sides closer to negotiations.

According to Hamid Mir, the benefits of a potential US-Iran understanding would extend far beyond the two countries and could provide Pakistan with the biggest strategic and economic advantage.

He said the removal of international sanctions on Iran could reopen trade and transit routes connecting Pakistan with Central Asia and the Middle East. He also predicted the formation of new geopolitical and geo-economic alliances in which Pakistan could emerge as a key regional trade hub.

The analyst added that Pakistan could gain access to cheaper Iranian gas supplies, helping resolve the country’s long-standing energy crisis.

Giving a historical perspective, Hamid Mir said that if peace prevails in the region, the day may not be far when cargo and passenger trains from Islamabad travel through Iran and Turkey directly into Europe, creating one of the largest trade corridors in the region’s history.

He concluded by saying that Pakistan is currently playing an important role in promoting regional peace, and if the country’s leadership manages internal political stability effectively, economic recovery and national development could become achievable goals in the near future.
