No Environmental Threat to Pakistan from Iran Oil Facility Bombings, Says Met Office

Islamabad: Pakistan’s Pakistan Meteorological Department has stated that recent bombings targeting oil facilities in Iran pose no immediate environmental threat to Pakistan.

According to the department’s spokesperson Anjum Nazir, the Met Office is in contact with Iranian authorities and is actively exchanging data to monitor the situation.

He said that, based on Iranian data, no hazardous pollutants or toxic gases have been detected in the upper atmosphere so far. Monitoring has also found no evidence of radiation.

The spokesperson explained that even in the event of any radioactive incident, prevailing wind patterns would likely carry effects toward Turkmenistan rather than Pakistan. He added that the bombings are occurring in Iran’s northwestern region, while Pakistan shares a border with the country’s southern side, where conditions remain normal.

Earlier reports had suggested that strikes on Iranian oil reserves by the United States and Israel could lead to severe environmental damage, including claims of “black acid rain” in Tehran and surrounding areas. However, Pakistani authorities have reassured the public that there is currently no risk to the country’s environment.
