Pakistan Trapped in Debt Crisis; PTM Calls for Release of Political Prisoners and Restoration of Public Mandate

Quetta: A major public gathering of the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PTM) was held at Darra Arambai in Qila Abdullah, presided over by the party’s central General Secretary Abdul Rahim Ziaratwal. Key party leaders including Alauddin Kolkwal, Provincial President Abdul Qahar Khan Wadan, Deputy Secretary Sardar Amjad Khan Tarin, District Organizer Mirwais Khan Achakzai, Allah Muhammad, and Manzoor Achakzai addressed the gathering.
Speakers expressed deep concern over Pakistan’s worsening economic crisis, stating that the country is sinking under mounting interest-on-interest loans, which consume the majority of national revenue. They criticized the ruling groups for corruption and mismanagement while democratic institutions remain weakened. They further condemned violations of the constitution, curtailment of media freedom, and military interference in politics, saying these actions have isolated Pakistan domestically and internationally.
The party demanded the immediate restoration of the constitution and adherence of all state institutions to its framework. They warned that ignoring the mandate of 250 million citizens risks plunging the country further into economic and political turmoil.
On regional issues, speakers highlighted the escalating conflict involving the U.S., Israel, and Iran, urging the United Nations to play a proactive role. They also expressed concern over clashes along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border and called on neighboring countries to act responsibly.
The PTM stressed the need for addressing rampant looting and armed robberies perpetrated by government cardholders, the release of all political prisoners including former Prime Minister Imran Khan, restoration of the public mandate, and the conduct of transparent elections, emphasizing that all democratic forces should support these efforts led by Mahmood Khan Achakzai.
