JIP Chief Naeemur Rehman Criticizes High Petrol Taxes, Calls for End to Free Fuel for Officials

**Karachi, Daily Qudrat** – Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, has criticized the government for charging nearly Rs 120 per liter of petrol through multiple taxes, calling the move oppressive for the general public. He demanded that free petrol facilities for ministers and government officials be abolished, and large official vehicles be replaced with cars of up to 1300cc.
Speaking on the recent petrol price hike of Rs 55, Rehman said that Rs 20 of this increase was added as petrol levy, pushing the total levy to Rs 105 per liter. He noted that even when global oil prices fell recently, the relief was not passed on to the people. According to him, students, laborers, and the middle class, particularly those using motorcycles, are the most affected.
Rehman highlighted that just one liter of petrol per day would result in Rs 105 going toward the levy, and over the past two years, the government has collected Rs 2,600 billion in petrol levies from the public. He criticized the government for overburdening taxpayers while failing to collect taxes from the elite, stating that the recent rise in petroleum prices should be immediately rolled back.
