Election Commission Summons Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi Over Delay in Islamabad Local Elections

Islamabad : The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has summoned Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in his personal capacity over the delay in holding local government elections in Islamabad.
A five-member bench headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja heard the case on Thursday.
During the hearing, the Secretary Interior failed to appear before the commission despite being summoned. As a result, the ECP issued a contempt notice against the official for non-compliance.
Expressing displeasure, the Chief Election Commissioner questioned the absence of the Interior Secretary and remarked that if the secretary was unable to appear, the interior minister himself would be summoned.
He directed that Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi must appear personally at the next hearing. Addressing officials of the Islamabad Capital Territory administration, he said they could inform the ministry that the Election Commission had not been given a proper hearing in the matter.
ECP officials informed the bench that a letter had been sent to the Interior Secretary seeking cooperation regarding the conduct of local government elections, but no response had been received.
Following the development, the Election Commission ordered the issuance of a contempt notice to the Interior Secretary and adjourned the proceedings for further hearing.
