Sindh Government Agrees to Reduce Motorcycle Fines in Karachi

Karachi: The Sindh government has agreed to reduce heavy fines imposed on motorcyclists in Karachi, following demands raised by opposition leader Ali Khursheedi.
According to sources, a meeting of the Sindh Assembly’s special committee on e-challans was held, chaired by Provincial Home Minister Zia Ul Hassan Lanjhar. During the meeting, the government agreed to reduce fines for motorcycles and vehicles up to 1000cc.
Ali Khursheedi clarified that the opposition was not opposing e-challans but was seeking relief from disproportionately high fines. He emphasized that merely increasing fines does not solve traffic issues; functional traffic signals and clear lane markings are equally necessary. He added that most roads in Karachi lack proper lane markings and functioning signals, creating challenges for motorists.
The Home Minister noted that the government lacks sufficient resources to spend excessively on enforcement measures and supported the move to moderate penalties.
Khursheedi further stressed that imposing heavy fines on the poor and middle class without improving infrastructure is unfair. He called for transparency and reforms in the enforcement of traffic laws to ensure fairness and efficiency.
The decision marks a step toward addressing public concerns about excessive fines while maintaining traffic discipline in Karachi.
