Lahore High Court Suggests Strong Action Against DCs in Property Recovery Case

During a hearing at the Lahore High Court, the court remarked that if necessary, “two or three Deputy Commissioners (DCs) may need to be handcuffed” to ensure compliance in property recovery cases.

The case pertains to a contempt of court petition against the DC Gujrat for failing to restore possession despite a High Court order. The court summoned the Advocate General Punjab along with the official record for the proceedings.

Justice Sultan Tanveer Ahmed suggested that special benches may need to be formed to hear such cases, emphasizing that strong action, including arrests, may be required to enforce court orders. The court also expressed displeasure over the DC’s attitude towards lawyers appearing on his behalf.

The petition, filed by Haji Muhammad Sadiq of Dinga, Gujrat, stated that despite the Lahore High Court’s order to return possession, the property has not been restored. The Supreme Court had also rejected the government’s appeal against the High Court’s decision. The petitioner urged the court to initiate contempt proceedings against the DC for violating judicial orders.
