14 Former International Captains, Including Kapil Dev, Write to PM Shehbaz Sharif Seeking Better Medical Care for Imran Khan

**Islamabad:** Fourteen former international cricket captains from around the world, including Indian legend Kapil Dev, have written a letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressing concern over the health of former Pakistan captain Imran Khan and urging the government to ensure he receives proper medical treatment.

According to a report published by the Australian newspaper The Age, the letter was drafted by former Australian captain Greg Chappell. It carries the signatures of several prominent former captains, including Michael Atherton, Allan Border, Michael Brearley, Ian Chappell, Belinda Clark, Sunil Gavaskar, David Gower, Kim Hughes, Nasser Hussain, Clive Lloyd, Steve Waugh, and John Wright.

In the letter, the former captains expressed deep concern over recent reports about Imran Khan’s health, particularly claims that his eyesight has been affected during his detention. They stated that such reports have caused serious alarm among members of the international cricket community.

The signatories highlighted Imran Khan’s immense contribution to the sport, noting that as captain he led Pakistan to victory in the 1992 Cricket World Cup, a historic achievement that inspired generations beyond national borders. They added that many of them had either played alongside him or competed against him and regarded him as one of the finest all-rounders and captains in cricket history.

The letter concluded with a call to the Government of Pakistan to ensure that Imran Khan is provided with immediate, appropriate, and continuous medical care.

Meanwhile, a medical report regarding Imran Khan’s eye examination has also surfaced. According to the report, a two-member medical board visited Adiala Jail on February 15, 2026, to assess his condition. The board comprised ophthalmology specialists, including Professor Dr. Nadeem Qureshi from Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital and Professor Dr. Muhammad Arif Khan from PIMS Islamabad.

The report stated that without glasses, vision in his right eye was recorded at 6/24 partial, while his left eye measured 6/9. With corrective glasses, vision in the right eye improved to 6/9 partial and the left eye to 6/6. Signs of inflammation were observed in the retina of the right eye, though swelling had reduced, with thickness decreasing from 550 to 350, indicating improvement.

The medical board prescribed Nevanac and Systane Ultra eye drops for both eyes, and Cosopt eye drops specifically for the right eye.
