Fan Wearing Pakistan Shirt Removed from India-England Test Match at Old Trafford, Sparks Backlash

Manchester: A fan wearing a Pakistan cricket team shirt was removed from Old Trafford Stadium during the fourth Test match between India and England, sparking outrage and debate across social media platforms.
According to the spectator, security personnel at the stadium asked him to cover up his Pakistan jersey. When he refused and asked for a written explanation, they allegedly told him to either change the shirt or leave the premises. The incident quickly went viral after video footage circulated online.
Social media users condemned the move, calling it discriminatory and unjustified. Journalist Neelam Aslam tweeted, “This is completely unacceptable and against the law. I’ve seen people wearing Virat Kohli shirts in Pakistan — no one ever objected. And yet, in this so-called democratic and liberal country, this man was asked to hide his jersey. Why?”

Another user questioned the logic behind the removal: “A spectator attending a cricket match between India and England was told to hide his Pakistan shirt. Since when did wearing a cricket team’s shirt become a problem, especially when the team isn’t even playing?”
Critics argued that cricket fans regularly wear jerseys of various international teams at matches, regardless of who is playing, and that the man was not being disruptive or offensive. “There was no provocation, no complaints. Then why this discriminatory treatment?” asked one post.
A spectator who attended the Test Match at Old Trafford today was asked to cover up his Pakistan shirt. Why? Can you explain @lancscricket? How can it be in any way wrong to wear a cricket shirt to a cricket match? Are we setting new rules where you can…

The incident occurred during the ongoing five-match Test series between England and India, in which England currently leads 2-1. The incident has raised concerns over increasing intolerance and politicization of sports, particularly in multicultural and diverse settings like the UK.
As the debate continues online, no official statement has yet been issued by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) or the stadium authorities regarding the incident.
