Sheikh Rasheed Urges Authorities to Hear Appeals, Deliver Justice to Innocent

RAWALPINDI: Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad, head of the Awami Muslim League and former federal minister, has urged authorities to hear pending appeals and ensure justice for innocent individuals.
Speaking to the media outside an Anti-Terrorism Court in Rawalpindi, Sheikh Rasheed said that appeals should be heard “for God’s sake” and justice must be delivered to those who have been wrongfully convicted. He stated that several prisoners have died in jails, while many others have been handed sentences of up to 40 years.
Referring to his nephew, Rashid Shafique, he claimed that the latter had been unjustly sentenced despite not being present at the alleged location of the incident. Sheikh Rasheed maintained that his nephew had not even visited Faisalabad at the time, yet was awarded a 40-year prison term.
He also said that the doctor suggested by Aleema Khan should be included in the medical team of the PTI founder, adding that there should be no objection to incorporating the recommended name into the medical panel.
Highlighting the country’s economic challenges, Sheikh Rasheed said inflation and unemployment were at their peak, while business activity had come to a standstill. He appealed for relief measures to improve the living conditions of ordinary citizens.
On the occasion of the holy month of Ramzan, the former minister called for special relief and concessions for the underprivileged, emphasizing the importance and spirit of fasting and compassion during the sacred month.
