Elderly Man Dies of Heart Attack After Traffic Fine in Gujrat

Gujrat: A 60-year-old man died of a heart attack after being fined by traffic police in Punjab’s Gujrat district, officials confirmed.
The incident occurred near the Traffic Police Office on Old GT Road, where Tahir Baig was heading home on his motorcycle when he was stopped by traffic authorities.
According to police sources, the motorcyclist was fined Rs2,000 for allegedly not wearing a helmet. The deceased reportedly requested the officials to waive the fine, stating that he did not have the money at the time. However, his request was declined.
Following the incident, Tahir Baig left his motorcycle behind and began walking toward GTS Chowk to arrange payment for the fine. A few meters away, he suddenly collapsed and died on the spot.
Eyewitnesses immediately contacted Rescue 1122. After examination, emergency personnel declared him dead. The body was later shifted to Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Teaching Hospital (ABSTH) by rescue and police officials.
A spokesperson for Gujrat Police confirmed that the elderly man suffered a heart attack after the fine was imposed. Doctors at Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Teaching Hospital stated that cardiac arrest was the cause of death.
Meanwhile, the District Police Officer (DPO) Gujrat has ordered the Superintendent of Police (Investigation) to conduct an inquiry into the incident.
