KP Government Decides to Hand Over Security Responsibilities in Malakand Division to Police and CTD

An important decision has been made to hand over law and order responsibilities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Malakand Division to the KP Police, Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), and other provincial law enforcement agencies.

The decision was taken during a high-level meeting held at the Corps Headquarters in Peshawar to review the security situation in the province. The meeting was attended by Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Suhail Afridi, and Corps Commander Peshawar, along with other senior civil and military officials.

According to sources, both the military and political leadership agreed to move forward with a unified strategy in the fight against terrorism.

Speaking after the meeting, KP Law Minister Aftab Alam said that key decisions regarding law and order were made. He added that there was broad consensus between the chief minister and law enforcement agencies on multiple issues, and it was decided to move forward through mutual coordination.

The law minister further stated that decisions taken by the Provincial Apex Committee would be ensured before the upcoming National Apex Committee meeting, where provincial decisions would be formally endorsed. He also said that political and religious stakeholders, as well as tribal elders, would be taken into confidence.

Meanwhile, KP Information Adviser Shafi Jan confirmed that important decisions were made regarding both the economy and law and order. He said that once peace is restored in the affected areas, services will be handed back to the civil administration.

KP Finance Adviser Muzammil Aslam said the province’s financial challenges were also discussed in detail during the meeting. He noted that many major financial issues could be resolved if Khyber Pakhtunkhwa receives its due share under the National Finance Commission (NFC) award.

He described the current financial resources allocated for the merged districts as insufficient and said proposals have been put forward to address future fiscal challenges. He added that both the federal and provincial governments would work together to compensate for financial losses in the affected areas.
