Indian Farmers Announce Nationwide Protests Against Trade Deal with the US

New Delhi:Indian farmers’ organizations have announced nationwide protests against a trade agreement with the United States, alleging that the deal compromises the interests of India’s agricultural sector.
Farmer leaders said the agreement grants excessive concessions in agriculture, which they claim will harm local farmers. India’s influential farmers’ body, the **Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM)**, announced plans for protests in the coming days and declared a **nationwide strike on February 12**.
The farmers’ leaders described the trade deal with the US as **unfair and one-sided**, accusing the government of prioritizing foreign interests over domestic agriculture.
According to a report by **The Times of India**, there is widespread anger and disappointment among India’s farming community over the agreement. Farmers’ organizations termed the deal a reflection of the **Modi government’s incompetence**, calling it a “surrender” to the United States.
They warned that if the agreement is signed under the current terms, **intense protests will erupt across the country**. The farmers’ groups have also demanded the **resignation of India’s Commerce Minister**, saying the deal would further increase pressure on the country’s agricultural sector.
