Petroleum Levy Collection Hits Record High in First Half of Fiscal Year

ISLAMABAD: For the first time in the country’s history, the highest-ever petroleum levy collection has been recorded during the first half of a fiscal year, according to official documents.
The documents reveal that petroleum levy collection increased by Rs 273.51 billion on a year-on-year basis during the first six months of the current fiscal year. From July to December 2025, the government collected Rs 822.93 billion under petroleum levy, compared to Rs 549.41 billion collected during the same period of the previous fiscal year (July–December 2024).
Last month, the federal government increased the petroleum levy on petrol by Rs 4.65 per litre, raising it to Rs 84.27 per litre. Similarly, the levy on high-speed diesel was increased by 80 paisa per litre, taking it to Rs 76.21 per litre.
In addition, the federal government separately collected Rs 25.48 billion under the head of carbon levy during the first half of the ongoing fiscal year.
The significant increase in levy collection reflects the government’s revenue measures amid rising fuel prices and fiscal challenges.
